Conditions I refer to specialists

In crisis? Call or text 988 (press 2 for Spanish), or text HOME to 741741. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911.

Some problems need a different kind of help than I offer. That doesn’t mean they’re hopeless. It means the right specialist will help you faster.

This page covers conditions I refer out, and therapies I don’t provide. Each guide explains what it is, the signs, and where to go.

If you’re not sure which one fits, you can still book a first conversation with me. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll tell you, and help you find who is.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You’ve had stretches of very high energy, little need for sleep, and big risky plans.
  • You hear or see things others don’t, or feel watched or followed.
  • You can’t sleep most nights, for weeks or months.
  • You’re looking specifically for EMDR.
  • You need a full DBT program with skills groups.

Get help now if someone is not sleeping for days, hearing voices telling them to hurt themselves or others, or can’t tell what’s real. Call 911 or go to the nearest ER. You can also call or text 988.

I don’t treat these. Here’s where to go. For bipolar disorder or psychosis, start with a psychiatrist or your doctor. For insomnia, ask about a therapist trained in CBT for insomnia (CBT-I). For EMDR or a full DBT program, look for a provider certified in that method. Each guide above has details.

How I can still help

Psychosis and bipolar disorder: I don’t treat these directly. If your symptoms are stable and a specialist is treating you, I can see you, your partner or your family for couples or family therapy. If symptoms are active right now, you’ll usually need a higher level of care first, and I’ll help you find it.

Insomnia: I don’t treat insomnia directly. A sleep specialist is the right fit. While you work with them, I can still see you, your partner or your family for couples or family therapy, or individual therapy for the anxiety, depression or stress that may be making sleep worse.

Partners and families of people with these conditions often need support too. If you love someone who is struggling, I can work with you on how to help without losing yourself. Sessions are by video, in English or Spanish.

If someone’s illness has turned into threats or violence at home, safety comes first. Call 911, or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, free and 24/7.

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t you treat these?

Each one does best with specialized care, like a psychiatrist for bipolar disorder or a CBT-I therapist for insomnia. I want you to get the right help, not just any help.

Can you help me find the right specialist?

Yes. If we meet and I’m not the right fit, I’ll help you think through where to go next.

My partner has one of these conditions. Can you help me?

Yes. I can work with you, or with both of you as a couple, alongside their specialist care.

What if I’m not sure what I have?

That’s common. Book a first session. We’ll sort out what’s going on and what kind of help fits.

Start by figuring out where you fit

You don’t have to know the name for it.

You can start with one sentence:

“I’m not sure what kind of help I need.”

We can start there.
