Something happened and I’m not the same
Trauma & PTSD
In crisis? Call or text 988 (press 2 for Spanish), or text HOME to 741741. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911.
Sometimes one event changes everything. A crash, an assault, a loss, a night you can’t stop replaying.
Sometimes it isn’t one event. It’s years of growing up on alert, in a home where you had to take care of yourself too early.
Either way, your body learned to stay ready for danger. That made sense then. Now it can get in the way of sleep, work, and love.
Trauma responses are not a sign that you’re weak or broken. They are your nervous system doing its job too well. With the right help, most people get better.
Is this you?
- Memories, nightmares or flashbacks come back when you don’t want them.
- You’re jumpy, on guard, or always scanning the room.
- You avoid places, people or topics that remind you of what happened.
- You feel numb, far away, or not like yourself anymore.
- Calm and quiet feel strange, or even unsafe.
- You’d rather do everything alone than need anyone.

I treat this. I don’t offer EMDR. If you want EMDR specifically, this page explains what it is and how to find a trained provider.
How therapy works with me
We go at your pace. You don’t have to tell the whole story on day one, or ever, to get better.
First we work on feeling steadier in your body and your days. Then we look at how the past is still showing up now.
I listen closely to your words. “It wasn’t that bad.” “I should be over it.” “I just don’t think about it.” Those sentences often show where the pain is held.
Trauma also lands on the people you love. Partners can feel shut out, or like they’re walking on eggshells. We can bring them into the work when you’re ready. Sessions are by video, in English or Spanish.
If someone is hurting or threatening you now, safety comes first. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, free and 24/7.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to talk about what happened?
Not right away, and not in detail unless it helps. Many people get better without retelling every part.
Do you do EMDR?
No. I use other well-studied approaches. If you want EMDR, I can point you to how to find someone trained in it.
Can my partner come to some sessions?
Yes. Trauma affects relationships, and couples sessions can help your partner understand what’s happening. Coverage depends on your plan.
I’m a veteran. Can you help?
Yes. I’m a civilian clinician, not a veteran, and I work with veterans and their families across Florida by video.
Start where it’s safe to start
You don’t have to explain everything.
You can start with one sentence:
“Something happened, and I haven’t been the same.”
We can start there.
